I know the pandemic has risen 22lr costs but even at 4 cents a round from the past, seems kind of cheap when you see all the steps it takes to make it. Yes its all automated but an interesting video.

For large manufacturers, the cost of components is far lower than anything we might pay. For example, 80 .223 cases weigh one pound. Let's assume the brass sheet used to make those cases costs $2.50/pound. It means the raw material cost is about 3 cents per case. New .223 cases cost quite a bit more at retail.
A .22lr case weighs under 10 grains so the cost of the brass for that case probably runs around .3 cents. The amount of propellant is 2.1 grains so each pound of powder will yield around 3300 rounds. If powder is $15/pound (manufacturers pay less) the propellant costs is about half a penny. Lead scrap runs $1.20 per pound and refined lead probably runs twice that. A pound of lead will produce just over 170 .22 lr bullets so add 1.4 cents for the bullet. We're up to 2.2 cents per round. Then there's primer and packaging, but together they probably don't amount to more than another .3 cents. So let's say the ballpark material cost is 2/5 cents per round. That leaves plenty of room for a dealer markup and the manufacturer's margin to cover the amortization of machinery costs, their labor and overheads, and a profit, although I'm guessing .22lr is probably not very profitable.Comment

Thank You For Sharing!! Very Enjoyable!sigpicComment

Probably half that if you're buying brass sheet several tons at a time.Comment

That's cool, I wonder how they make all the bullets and cases point the same direction.Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.
