    smp735

ok i came into some smp735 powder. not much just a pound (although i could get more if i wanted to). i purchased this powder from a local ammunition reloading outfit. according to the guy i purchased it from this is the powder they use to load military 5.56 NATO.

now to my question. i'm shooting a keltec which is chambered for .223 rem. i know there is a pressure difference between 5.56 and .223. is the pressure difference that great? i know you can shoot 223 from a 5.56 barrel but it is supposed to be a no-no to shoot 5.56 out of a 223 barrel.

the load data i was given states 24gr starting 24.9gr max what if i was to start off with say like 22gr.? would that be a sugnificant enough pressure drop to safely shoot rounds loaded with the smp735?

should i start with a lower grain? what would be the pressure signs i'm watching for? i've never loaded hot loads of ever really gone to the high end of a reccomended load. so i've never really worried about excessive pressure.

I did some research and found that SMP stands for St. Marks Propellant. It's made in Florida and is distributed by Hodgdon. I think that this is a millitary powder, but not sure.

I can't find much info on the web as far as load data. Do you know if it is similar to WC 735?
