7mm, 139gr, lead-free (factory seconds) Hornady GMX on sale at MidwayUSA

Saw these while doing some shopping. These are Hornady GMX (lead free) factory seconds. Weight is 139 gr, caliber is 7mm.

These are the projectiles only, i. e. for reloaders.

I got some factory seconds, probably not .25 MOA bullets but for hunting why not. I measured some ELDs once and there were 8 that were not like the others with some discoloration. Good for blasting.

Still 52% off. I bought a box last week, and they actually look pretty good. Weights in my box are within half a grain.

I got some 6mm GMX seconds from Midway as they are on sale, too. I have had good luck with most of the factory seconds I have bought from them.

Has anyone had accuracy or fouling issues shooting them after Barnes TSX bullets, or vice versa? I understand they are not not pure copper ;like Barnes. Ditto for Nosler E Tips?

I believe they're what's called "gilding metal", which is 95% copper and 5% zinc. There shouldn't be any greater copper-fouling with these than with the copper-jacketed lead-core bullets. In both cases, the copper is what the rifling sees.

After zeroing my 308 this year for deer season, I realized I was down to less than 20 rounds of lead-free 308 ammo so this comes at the perfect time since I was ordering bullets anyways I went ahead and grabbed a box of the 6mm and 7mm seconds as well as some more Nosler 20 cal leadfree ballistic tips because I end up shooting a lot more squirrels when out big game hunting than big game bullets.

Gilding metal after copper is fine. Copper after gilding metal is potentially problematic. So if you switch back to something that is 100% copper (or 100% copper jacketed, looking at you Swift bullets) after shooting something that is gilding metal or gilding metal jacketed; scrub your bore to bare metal and use a decoppering agent before firing.

E-tips, GMX, and Winchester 95/5 bullets are gilding metal (of whatever composition, doesn't have to be 95/5 but often is). Every barnes expanding monolithic bullet is 100% copper. Some of the Barnes jacketed bullets are 100% copper jacketed, some are gilding metal. IIRC Swift bullets are 100% copper jacketed, along with a few other more boutique manufacturers.

I could tell a difference in shooting my 6.5 the other day when I switched from Hornady and Nosler to Swift bullets.
