what type of ammo is this?

a friend of mine was given 500 rounds of this type of ammo by someone he did some work for, unfortunately he did not ask what it was meant to be used in. i've never seen these before and couldnt find any info on them. does anyone have an idea what type of rifle these were meant to be used with? are they french?

.30 Caliber M1 Carbine, French Manufacture, berdan primed and almost certainly corrosive. IIRC ALL French carbine ammo was corrosive but I may be mistaken.

thanks for all the info. i knew someone here at calguns would know! after i told my friend what they were he did mention that it was a senior citizen that had given them to him, i think he even gave him an ammo pouch. again, thanks.
