How do you determine what is the right height for a bench? or if a strong mount is needed?

On mine I needed to extend my bench so I could make it the height I wanted. I mocked up the press on my current bench using stacked 2x6s until I got the press at a level where I could stand comfortably and also sit using my bar stool. As it turned out I could keep my bench the same height and just use a 7" mount from inline fab. If I remember correctly for my height (5-10)the height for the dillon was 48" from floor to the bottom of the press base.

I bought a 550 in 1991 during 2014 I sent the press back for a rebuild. The press came back better than new with all the upgraded parts. have zero aftermarket parts on it and I love the press. There is a learning curve on how the press works ,it is not hard but takes some time and once mastered troubleshooting and adjusting is fast and simple...It takes some time . T have loaded 38 and 357. 9mm, 40 S@w, 45 ACP 223. 308. 30-06 , 300 Weatherby mag and 338 Lapua.

I load standing and my arm lands about right height with my bench at 38 inches with a dillon 650 no strong mount, the strong mount raises the press up to make you not lean over to use just make your bench a good working height and you are all set. Some people sit so adjust as needed.

Just use the stock machine. How do u know what it needs? You have no idea what it can do!!

I got 4-550’s, one 650 and a 1050. They’re all great.

I had a Lee for a bit. Two hours. It sucked. There’s no comparison. Most people i know with lock and load machines eventually bought dillons.

If you think u need all the bling than u might ask yourself if the pain meds for your leg might have impaired your judgement.

I was leaving for work while it was still mostly dark and had forgotten something in a truck I don't normally use which was parked up next to a old cottonwood stump that had some exposes roots. When I stepped back out of the truck my foot somehow got hung up in the roots as I was turning and caused me to loose my balance. I went down on my back and my foot stayed hung up. Whats funny is the evening before I had spent 5-10 minutes looking at and walking around that stump devising a plan to remove it.

You could certainly run a 1050 forever without any aftermarket parts. I've added a few aftermarket parts to smooth out autodrive operation and with regular lubrication the press has been great for at least 150K rounds.

Why don't you set it up and run it as is? Pretty silly if you ask me to start throwing parts at a machine that you haven't even used. You may buy an aftermarket part that somebody else recommends, only to find that you don't like it as well as the stock part.

There's always going to be someone trying to design a better mousetrap. Just because somebody makes a part that's different doesn't mean it's better.

I just use standard counter height, and mount my press(es) on a tall Inline Fabrication bench mount. I find that with the press at that height, I can operate it comfortably either standing or sitting on a regulation bar stool/chair.

When it comes to Dillon, buy the 1050/1100 and be done with it forever.

I tried an “upgrade” part once and stripped a screw hole because it was misaligned. The Dillon **** works just fine on its own.
