Do new cases have to be passed through a sizing die?

can some one get away with not passing a new case through a sizing die?

Pistol or rifle brass? Even with new rifle brass I neck size em just to make sure things are consentric for proper bullet retention. Pistol not at all.

both, with pistol brass will u never need to pass them through a sizing die or does it depend on whom the manufacturer of the brass is?
with rifle brass is it nessecsary or are u doing it just to reassure yourself? does it also depend on from which manufacturer u got the brass from as some manufacturers are more reliable than others?

Ammosmith.com recomends always sizing new brass and shows some examples of factory new stuff with deformed case mouths.

Yup, always resize them. I had my share of experiance. Trim them too or at least measure them. Like Mattman said, some companies you dont need to, some you have to.

For me, They ALL get resized.

Pistol brass is easy since they all go through the progressive loader and get run through the carbide resizer, whether they need it or not.

Rifle brass: Checked for length and all get neck sized to make sure the mouths are round and sized to hold the bullet properly.

I buy less expensive pistol brass so I always cleanup the flash hole and carbide size them.

I use Lapua for rifle and just load and shoot the new ones.

I always sized them. Not that I had that many new cases to work with.

new brass often needs to be trimmed as well.

so size, then trim new brass.

Lapua is the only new brass I will load straight out of the box with no prep.

Everything else gets full length sized.

unless you've already have once fired factory rounds, how do you know what headspace you need???

will ammo assembling factories size, trim, deburr brass or is the brass they buy guaranteed to be of the highest quality?

personally, i full body size new brass to get a better gauge of what the chamber of a rifle is like, if that makes any sense. then i'll go ahead and neck rounds until the headspace gets out of reason. then full size again and repeat...
