    Powder Funnels

Mine is an inexpensive plastic one that works just fine with .243 and .30-06 cases, but the narrow part of the funnel is just a bit larger than the mouth of a .223 case. If I use ball powder, there's some risk of granules spilling out in the gap between the case mouth and the funnel unless I'm very careful about how I hold the case.

Is there any advantage to the caliber-specific funnels (Satern) or something like the RCBS quick-change, and are any clearly better than the others?

I used the generic funnel when I started reloading.

Then, upgraded to the caliber-specific Satern, worth the money, IMHO.

      I use these:

LYMAN POWDER PAL UNIVERSAL FUNNEL PAN

They are handy for loading trickled charges. Throw/trickle directly into the pan while it's on the scale, then dump directly into a case.

My process will probably change when my AutoTrickler comes in.

I bought the Saturn powder funnel for both my 223 and 204R loading. 2 separate funnels made from brass and alum and for the one specific caliber(not cartridge). They are the greatest thing since sliced bread. They sit on top without holding them and NO LEAKAGE.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I have a set of quick change funnel by Franklin that work fair, had them for 10 yrs.+.
I saw a set of RCBS and tried them, so disappointed by this poorly made Chinese crap. I called them and the offered a freebie of equal value, but made no apologies when I asked them why they are selling Chinese junk. I have the quick change powder drop funnels on my Uniflow and they work great.

I just ordered one Satern for .223 and another for 6mm (.243). I can manage with the original for the relatively small volume of .30-06 I load.

              Thanks for the responses.

I have a number of Saturn Funnels too (.223, 6mm, .30) . The Caliber Specific ones are super nice. The multi cal funnel (.30-.50) I use for rimmed pistol rounds and it works good too. Not as secure as the caliber specific funnels, but solid and weighted toward the bottom so it does not tip

I use one, too. Very handy funnel/scale pan.

I use the Lyman universal funnel, it mostly does okay. For those calibers/cartridges where it doesn't I've 3d printed other funnels.

That being said there are two versions. The earlier version did not work with WSSM cartridges, the latter version does.

you guys are way overthinking this - I used a basic Redding plastic funnel for everything for years until I lost it... still not sure how that happened, maybe I accidentally threw it away or something

anyway, why funnel will work & it is more of a technique than anything...

^^^ Not overthinking it when you are loosing powder due to not fitting correctly. I have 4 RCBS funnels but none of them worked well on 223 and 204R. So I bought the Saturn caliber specific ones and they work great. I use the RCBS ones for other calibers. I have been loading for far too long and too many different cartridges to put up with stuff that does not work

Saturn caliber specific here. Was looking at the area 419 set but have not dropped the dough since the saturns work great.

I have the Area 419 kit, which is great, but pricey ($100.)

A cheaper alternative is the Lyman Brass Smith Funnel Set, which does pretty much everything the 419 kit does for 1/3 the price. Doesn't look as sexy though.
