Wouldn't a Lee Factory Crimp Die or a Bulge Buster do the same job, though? Even on a turret press, it wouldn't be much additional time, and on, say, a 4-stage progressive press (e. g. Dillon RL500B), there wouldn't be any additional time at all."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

Roll sizing get the bottom 10-15% of the case that the sizing die doesn’t touch it make that portion of the case concentric it helps to ensure reliable feeding in the toughest of chambersNot a Marxist or a supporter of any Marxist organization no matter what they call themselves

or you could just size it on a single stage - the problem is usually only really a problem on a progressive as most are set to ensure reliability of operation of the press not the finished ammo - the sizing dies are beveled at the base to aid in proper alignment of the case and the progressives they come up short.
... something about the people not taking into account the flexing of the shell plate while the press is under full load of all stations or something like that - some engineer who gets way too technical with just about everything explained to me why this happens but I really wasn't paying attention.
OP I was/am not trying to piss all over your ad, I am just halfheartedly giving a reason why the bulge... personally $10 to not have to pull the handle an extra 1000 times on a single stage seems like money well spent to meLast edited by Bastard; 12-29-2020, 11:27 AM.Comment

I don't think that is the case. I reload on both single stage and progressive, the dies are the same. Yes, on the progressive the shell plate has some natural movement since it needs to rotate, but not enough to make a difference. It will move maybe a 1/32" and since the dies are the same, it won't make a difference.
I have been reloading since the late 1970's and NEVER had this issue with 9mm, then my son-in-law got a HK compact and my reloaded ammo started giving him issues, it worked fine in my guns but not his. They failed the plunk test and also failed case gauging, but worked fine in my stuff. I have never in 40+ years bought 9mm brass, all range pickups. I assume his HK has a tight chamber and my guns don't. I started using the LEE bulge buster with 9mm Makarov die for his ammo to fix the issue, what a pain in the finger (crushed my thumb more than once) and super time consuming, then we had to keep track of my 9mm ammo and his ammo. I got a rollsizer and problem solved, I roll size even my ammo now, its a extra hour to do 1,000 rounds and I actually think it helps.
Now maybe if I didn't use range pickup brass, I would not have had this problem with his HK, but the rollsizer has fixed the problem. I only rollsize 9mm my .45 is all starline brass and I carefully pick that up. I do think that rollsizing fixes a problem that for 99.99% of the people reloading does not exist. In our family we have 8 9mm guns, only one gun had issues and maybe the best thing would have been to send it back and get a new barrel without a tight chamber. But I went this route instead.
OP, if I had seen your ad before, I likely at your price would not have gotten the rollsizer and sent you my brass, I figure I only need to rollsize every 3 or 4 times I reload a case.Last edited by mikeyr; 12-30-2020, 12:01 PM.sigpic

What kind of rollsizer do you have?
I know Lee doesn't make a 9mm bulge buster because of the taper, but they make a 9mm Mak one and it works well on 9mm?
I shoot my ammo through my buddy's open bolt and all my cases come out well bulged. My progressive doesn't come anywhere near sizing enough and the shellplate flexes a LOT when I try to size on it. I size one at a time on a Roch Chucker.Comment
