    Pulling factory ammo?

Well, It seems that finding primers is just about as easy as threading a needle with a 2x4. So, out of despiration, has anybody thought of buying cheap factory ammo like the Winchester 22-250 40gn(the Walmart 40 count boxes) and loading it with their own bullets and powder? All I would need to do is pull the bullet and resize the neck with the decapping pin out right? I know it sounds weird "Why not just shoot the stuff". But, I like my 52 AMAX's and BTHP, but I can't find primers to make from scratch. So, what do you guys think?

It been done before..... Back with M118SB (173grFMJBT) ammo the bullets were pulled and replaced with 168grSMK making field expedient M852 (aka Mexican Match).

    Luck favors the prepared.

I thought so. I will be getting my WOA Service Rifle upper some time within the next month and I have NO primers for small rifle. Does anyone know which budget ammo has good brass and primers?

This idea strikes me as ridiculous.
Just buy sufficient ammo for a prolonged emergency, buy and shoot .22lr in the meantime, and once the current frenzy dies down, buy and keep in stock suffiient primer supplies to tide you over in case of a future similar interruption.

I've curtailed my own shooting of several large-bore firarms, as my ammo and reloading stocks grow low, but I'm basically still using primers I bought in 1994, during the last major scare. I bought a LOT of primers then. But even they are finally running low. I'll be laying in more once availability and pricing improves.

i was actually planning to pull some of my factory rem hunting rounds apart for the brass and primers, until i shot a 5-shot group measuring .75" with it this weekend... i guess the bullet puller will stand at ease for a while....

As ridiculous as it may have sounded 3 years ago, it's not that far-fetched an idea now, particularly for the competition shooter. Most competition shooters would have had a couple cases of primers on hand, so they're getting through this period ok. But it kind of sucks for someone who planned on going to a State Championship or even Nationals and has no primers or powder to make ammo.

I guess it's how desperate you are for match loads. Even then, you would be able to score at least a brick from someone at your club or in your locality of competition shooters, particularly High Power shooters.

For match quality ammo it has for me because there are some big sticklers around here who are keeping the good stuff to themselves...I just like to know my options...

Thanks for the great idea. My coworker owed me some money so he gave me two boxes of 38 special cowboy loads (he is a sass shooter). These were so weak they sounded and felt like a .22. I thought what a waste of ammo ( for my shooting style at least). Last night I pulled them apart and loaded them with my 38 special recipe. Now they went from pop to BANG!

                  thanks
