Upside down primers? Safe in epoxy?

You should just make some dummy rounds without powder to be safe. I doubt anything would happen unless there was a fire, but why leave the powder in there when it is so easy to remove it?

No time and not worth it. I’ll toss the ones with an upside primer if it’s thought to be an issue when encased in epoxy resin.

Isn't it easier and faster to just pull the projectile, then it is to epoxy the upside down primer. It just takes a few seconds to pull the projectile. And you get to reuse the projectile and the powder. Unless I'm missing something here.

Reloaders should know how to handle primers before they start reloading; reloadrs believe the case has head space and they believe they can move the shoulder back on a case when sizing.

They should know what caused the primer to flip/turn over when installing.

If its not worth your time to make them safe then its not a good idea to give the cartridges away to anyone.

To answer your question to the best of my ability - I'm not sure thats a safe thing to do as curing of the epoxy is an exothermic reaction. There's other factors that effect the exotherm such as the thickness of each pour as well as the amount and types of catalysts. There may also be a chemical reaction that ignites it or deactivates it.

Are you sure she's using epoxy and not polyester? Either one will make heat and while it may not generate enough heat to set anything off, you're giving it the chance to.

The best way would be to pull the bullet, dump the powder and replace the primer with a spent primer. But that takes time. Can try to kill the primer with oil or WD40, but that not guarenteed to work and it still leaves the components to go boom in the cartridge.

The only risk is if she dumps in too much catalyst and it gets hot enough to set off the primer.
