Small Pistol Primer Mania!

Geez, are people really paying $100 per 1000 box for small pistol primers? I might open up my reserves and stick with .45 until covid passes. PM me if you're in SoCal!

P.S. I wasn't in the hobby when the 2008 and 2012 shortage happened, but you'd think reloaders would know to keep inventory on hand. Even I have a healthy stockpile of primers and I've only been loading for a couple years.

Anyone have insider insight when supply will catch up with demand? It's not looking good for us gun folk with election season also around the corner.

They're selling for over $100 per 1000 on gunbroker now, or $500/5000 in bulk for small pistol primers. I'm guessing these sellers must be dealers because individuals without Hazmat shipping accounts aren't supposed to ship primers or powder as they are regulated as explosives.

Could be a long while before stocks are replenished, so selling off too much of your personal supply could leave you wanting.

I sold a calgunner 1k for 40 bucks a week ago. I have 10 k of various primers. I hope no one is desperate enough to pay 100 k. I will get my bro to buy a bunh and undercut the opportunists.

This morning I joked in another thread about the shortages being a business opportunity. I now regret that because it seems several people have taken the idea to heart.

The capitalist in me says, if a buyer is willing to pay the seller's price, no matter how outrageous, there's no harm and no foul.

My common sense says, sellers who ask double or triple the price in hopes of capturing what economists call "scarcity rents" may gain in the short-term but people will remember what they did.

Granted there is a huge difference between hand sanitizer and primers but a couple of geniuses in Tennessee tried hoarding and then trying to gouge people. It did not go well.

Smooth! At $100 a pop, you could sell now and buy a used prius! Or triple your inventory of SPP when the panic buying blows over.

It didn't help that what they stockpiled was an essential Healthcare commodity. A construction company I worked for paid 5x the normal of sanitizer stands and dispensers to remain "essential".

I’ve got about 400-500 223 Loaded that I’m going to pull down because I don’t trust them. I’m thinking about sorting and keeping the projectiles, fertilizing the lawn with the powder and selling the primed brass for 15 cents each. Is it still legal to ship primed brass W/O hazmat?

True, most products in the Firearms industry have remained cost-neutral considering inflation adjustment. Consider the reintroduced Colt Python, its nearly the same inflation-adjusted price you would have paid in 1976. Now if it's of the same quality is another issue together.


That said, it's fun to see an old jug of Bullseye Powder with a tag that says $8.

Looks like I'm wrong. Can't ship primed brass with USPS, but FEDEX and UPS will ship primed brass with no hazmat fee.
