    IMR 4064

I just ordered (2) 8 pound jugs of IMR 4064 powder from Sinclair International for $157 plus shipping and Haz Mat for totalling about $330. I guess it is a decent price.

Now I will have (4) 8 pound jugs of IMR 6064, allong with 8 pounds of Vit N140, 16 pounds of Win 748, 8 pounds of Vit N550 which will last me for a while. I've got enough primers for it also. Now, only problem is to keep up with the 30 cal bullets.

Does anyone know if any other vendors have a better price for powder and bullets somewhere?

Oh, by the way, what is a retrofit AR? I thought an AR is an AR whether it was registered AW or featureless.

I think you got a fair deal on the 4064...I've been looking for 4064 locally and the only one's I've been able to find able to find are 1 pounders at 29.95 plus tax.

VV140 is tough here, too, but I've got an AI that does really well with it. When I can find it, it's 38/lb

I keep forgeting about Sinclair for powder..sounds like something to look into.

I'd be willing to entertain grabbing 2 or 3 of the 8 pounders and splitting the hazmat..in the SF East Bay Area...

Aren't you a wee bit over the legal limit for powder?

I may store the the powder at different locations if it is the problem. I have plenty of places other than my house to store.

Disclaimer - IANAL, these are my understanding of the code. Research for yourself or consult a lawyer for an authoritative reference.

                        My take:
CA limit for unpermitted residential storage of powder for personal use is 20# smokeless, 1# black if I recall correctly. It is buried in the Health and Safety code, somewhere in the 12000's.

There's a separate restriction for permitted storage between 20 and 50# that requires storage in a rated portable magazine or box with >=1" wooden sides.

I've had a harder time chasing down primer limits - as far as I can tell, the state inappropriately delegates authority to an industry tradegroup that has set a cap of 10K combined. (I forget if this is NFPA or the Int'l FP Std.). The part that peeves me to no end is that those standards aren't freely accessible - you have to buy them. So to some extent I would have to pay to find out to what laws I am subject, which reeks.

I wonder how many people violate the powder and primer rules. I will only keep just a few pounds of powder at home for sure then.
