    Buying ammo

I would like to purchase some .25 caliber ammo for a gun I purchased over 30 years ago. I still have the receipt but it is not registered. What am I up against?

Either register a firearm or pay 19 bucks every time you want to buy ammo.

It is not every time. Just the first purchase, after that you pay the one dollar fee.

No worries about the gun itself. The ammo situation is a bit of a PITA now. I purchased guns recently enough that I pass the instant check to buy ammo. Depending on your situation you may have to pay the $20 fee I think to get the clearance to go ahead. Helps for convenience to have Real ID also. Somewhere here on the forum this is explained, I'm not an expert at all. Good luck!

First ammo purchase will be $19 and a few days to a couple of weeks wait for the background check to go through. After that, it should be $1 and come back almost instantaneously. And as long as you buy something that bounces against the database (firearm or ammo) every 5 years, it stays updated, so further purchases will get the $1 background check.

Be warned that you'll need a Real ID OR a Fed Limits Apply ID and a passport or birth certificate (I've heard stories about some places requiring both - don't know about that.)

The gun is not an issue if it was purchased legally at the time; there's been no requirement since then for any further action.

Does this also apply to purchasing powder and primers?

              Incorrect.
The only way to qualify for the $1 free is through registration.
Either registered a currently owned, PPT or new purchase.

No. Just applies to loaded ammunition.

I'll just put the Beretta away and stick to re-loading, makes no sense to pay $19.00 for a $20.00 box of ammo. Thanks all.
