Powder in hopper

Always empty the hopper when I'm done for the day.

Smokeless powder is hydrophillic (it will absorb humidity from the air) and when it absorbs water, it swells. Only the top half inch or so will swell like this. This makes any later charges thrown from that powder less powerful than the first charges thrown from dry powder, but not consistently so.

I leave the powder in the hopper, its as good in there as it is in a jug. All my hoppers come with tops.

Nothing goes back into a jug at my place. I feel it's more dangerous cross contaminating powders than to leave it in the hopper until used. Even if its the same powder, just different lot number.

To eliminate confusion, I always label my hopper with the type of powder in it.

I use a dillion 650 and I label with tape the powder messure the load and poder in it BUT I also clean it ALL out when done, if 1 or 2 days i leave it.

But when done with run of whatever I dump it back in jug and clean out primers, powder and take batteries out of dillion primer checker and powder level thing. I left batteries in to long one time and they leaked.

i'm a cheapskate so use one powder measure for all

but if i had a dillon with swaping heads i would leave powder in it cause i would know what i am using per caliber

I have heard of people use Win 231 for 44 Mag. 21 grains of 231 instead of 296 will have a devastating effect on the firearm. I always clear my powder dispenser.

I was lazy one time. My hopper got all cloudy from leaving the powder in it. It got to the point where I couldn't see when it ran empty. Loaded about 25 rounds w/ no powder. Had to pull bullets from about 100 rounds to make sure where the powder ran out...
