Anyone out there use either the classic or deluxe turret press for rifle reloading? I want to reload for a Swede 6.5X55 mauser and an 8x57js K98. Any help is appreciated.

I am a Lee user, go for the delux turet.
now this is what you will hear from 90% of the rest. Drink the koolaid and get a Dillon. yada yada yadaLand of the Free BECAUSE of the brave.

I run the Lee turret press for pistol reloading. It works OK and is a great beginner press or for only loading a couple hundred rounds a year. Its operation is simple and using it really forces you to learn how each operation works.
However, I've tuned and upgraded it in every which way, but there still is a little bit of "looseness" with the cycling turret head and your pull on the giant lever arm must be consistent. The small amount of looseness with the turret head might cause a prob with bottleneck cartridges, but i doubt it's enough to cause trouble. Also, i have a sneaking suspicion that the head itself isn't perfectly square with the shellholder. In terms of speed, after like 50 rds or so i get impatient and really start to pick up my pace, but this results in inconsistent lever pulls which causes incomplete/over cycling of the turret head. Overall it's a good press, but i think i'd rather use my old trust Rock Chucker or just buy a Dillon.
I haven't really considered selling it, but if ya want i'll sell whole package to ya and try to work with you on the price. Supposedly you're local, so we could potentially make this happen.Last edited by gottarollwithit; 05-15-2009, 12:35 AM.The dude abides...Comment

Lee Classic cast turret is good
I have one that I use for reloading 6.5 swede, 303 British, and 30-06 and it works great. Makes very accurate ammunition. With practice I can load about 100-120 rounds an hour.
For a beginner press for rifle reloading, it is a decent choice.
Get a good loading manual (I like the Sierra loose-leaf binder manual) and follow it carefully, and use a digital scale to measure your powder charges when starting out. The Lee yellow scoops are pretty good as they ensure you don't over-charge a case.
Reload safely and enjoy shooting your own ammo.Comment

What koolaid? I think you are confusing us with DumbOCrats.
Dillon is the way to go - and it ain't got anything to do with Koolaid.sigpic
