    .30 Carbine Primers not seating

Went to start reloading a batch of .30 carbine using federal small rifle primers and am having issues. 1st one went no problem, 2nd and 3rd would not seat. As far as i've read 30 carbine brass doesn't usually have a crimped primer pocket. Any recommendations on a different brand of primers ? Or insight onto what the issue is here.

I'm priming on the press with a Rock Chucker using an old RCBS die set and shell holder.

    Thanks.

SRPs should be uniform across all brands, no?
    You're sure they are SRPs?
    Don't have a pocket swage?

Some Carbine brass has a primer crimp. WCC / WRA is the most common.

Why don't you get a magnifier and look?

As far as I know SRP's are uniform across all brands. Yup they are SRP's . No pocket swage. No WCC / WRA brass. Don't see a crimp, but i'm guessing they must be crimped. Will look into getting a swage.

Took my chamfer/debur tool and got a couple more to seat but they are still getting deformed and smashed into the primer pocket.

Federal primers are known to be a bit softer than others. However, the brass probably has a ring crimp or you wouldn't have any trouble.

Where did the brass come from? I've got a bunch of milsurp 30 carbine with crimped primers.

The metal of some primers is harder than others. If the pocket is tight the harder primers will be tough to press in. The hardest I've found are Russian Tula and Wolf but I had a batch of Federal small rifle primers that were pretty hard. The softest I've found is Remington.

Try reaming the pockets. If you're cutting metal they probably were crimped. A crimped pocket will always be hard to prime if not impossible if you don't ream or swag it.

Loading one primer at a time on the Rock Chucker is too slow for me. I do ten at a time with a hand primer and you can feel right away if the primer isn't going smooth. I have tried 4 different hand primers and the one I would recommend is the Frankford Arsenal platinum. You can adjust the primer seating depth and it is very solid and plenty of grip to squeeze with.
Its on sale right now at Midway for $58 with free shipping. It comes with a set of shell holders and it is compatible with my Lee shell holders too for any of my more rare calibers.

If you want to ream the crimp, you can use a #2 Phillips bit in a cordless drill, or drill press

get a small primer reamer that will solve this you can say they are not crimped but that does not help you cause they will not seat to foRget about it and ream them then you have a even playing filed.

Chamfer and make sure primer pocket is not still to tight if swaged.

                          BINGO!

Reloaded thousands of rounds of LC .30 carbine brass before Y2K with a buddy of mine. Philips head on low speed in a drill press - a few seconds of holding them firmly to it, and - VOILA! Primer ready!

RCBS make a LP/SP swage kit you can mount in your press, just don't over set the depth or you'll deform the pocket and seat to deep. other option is to hand ream the crimp away or use the above recommendation.

Walked away from it yesterday, went back today and tried again . Was able to load up the rest of the batch . Seems something is out of line though . After inserting the shell into the holder I'd have to wiggle the shell or press handle and then I could prime no problem. Not sure what the issue was/is but at least it is getting done now. Have not had that issue this issue before with 9mm,.38/357 or .30-06 so not sure what the deal is.

Brass is once fired range brass mix of LC,PPU,Aguila.
