    Lead-free handgun ammo options

Can you guys tell me what lead-free handgun ammo options are out there for .40 and .357mag? So far I've only found .40 Winchester Superclean NT ammo, and it comes with 140gr bullets. Ideally, I'd like to find something with 180gr bullets I'm used to. I couldn't find any lead-free .357 at all.

Thinking of going hunting, and having a backup handgun with me, mainly for 2-legged morons out there (found several pot plantations in L.A. National Forest in the past, and I'd rather have a handgun with me), and supposedly I live in the condor range. So even if I'm not going to hunt with a handgun, I still have to have the blasted lead-free ammo for the handgun.

I'm yet to see a condor around here.

    Thank you in advance.

    P.S.: I hate hippies.

Sorry, just looking at the prices of the ammo I wouldn't buy if I wasn't forced to.

        Nick:

You may want to widen your search: what makes the NT "lead free" is that the primer is _also_ lead free. (I found this out at an indoor range in Oxnard that requires lead free primers). To meet the condor regulations, you need a lead free _bullet_: the regs don't care about your primer. Barnes makes a number of lead free bullets, some in .357. You may want to check out the list at http://www.barnesbullets.com/product...ed-ammunition/ Federal and Cor-bon both list a 357.

Oh, I don't care much about the primer, I'm only looking for something with a lead-free bullet. Ideally, with a 180gr lead-free bullet, in case of .40. So far I only found .40 rounds with 140gr and 150gr bullets though. Which isn't surprising, given that tin and copper are lighter than lead.

I buy like four boxes of the lead free stuff . Then I keep the boxes and fill them with my own ammo for the ranges that insist on it.

All they look at it the label.

Well, it's not for the range, it's for hunting. I don't think they'd be looking at the box

Who checks your self defense handgun ammo out in the bush? Your primary rifle hunting ammo I'm sure has to comply but how can any official enforce an ammo composition code for a round that would never be discharged except in a self defense application?

When you're hunting in the condor zone, you can't have ammo with bullets with lead. It's not worth losing your firearms and a substantial fine to test this theory. Maybe the next time he goes hunting is the first time he meets a DFG warden with a special place in his heart for condors.

Buying or handloading lead-free ammo is cheap insurance.

We live in CA,common sense and Bill of Rights aren't welcome here. And going through the court to remove the fine afterwards is more hassle than finding lead-free ammo, alas.
