        ><

Plain boxes that shells are sold in worked fine my entire life. Some have sat for 20 years + , shoot just as good as day one Dry, is key.

Pick up the empty boxes at a range and call it good

          This is #4 buck

25 shells stacked nicely in a cardboard box

Good for a couple of decades, but it probably gets shot within the next year or so on a range trip if it isn't needed for the next STHF event. I have a couple boxes of #00 buck and several boxes of 1 oz slugs stored the same way.

          Most likely victim:

the metal cans hold up better with more weight. Handles on the plastic ones will break
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

While I've found the plastic ones to not be up to the task when full of metallic, I've had no issues with shotshells. . I routinely carry 100 to the skeet range along with eyes and ear muffs in a 50 cal plastic. OP spec'd 50 rounds. That's a lot of wasted space. If that's not an issue with your safe, you don't have enough guns.

skyline- Boxes, plastic and/or metal ammo cans are all good way to store your shells. If you think you may ever be in a situation where you need to grab them and run, the metal ammo cans probably your best option in that it is the most sturdy and can hold a lot of shells which you can quickly grab and stick in your truck or car if you need to move fast.

If you need to get at the the shells quickly for a defensive situation, this is my recommendation on how you should have about 50 shells stored at the ready:

                1A - 2A = -1A
