Both are approx .618 in length, if I tried this "2/3" seating depth there would be no cylindrical bearing surface at the case mouth. Since I use the lee fact crimp die to put a very slight roll into the crimp, this won't work for me. Not even sure if
it would feed with the rim of the case mouth exposed so to speak.

I'll stick with published safe oal data and leave the 2/3 technique to quick-load practitioners.
"2/3" .298 seating depth for your 45 cal bullet and a .264 seating depth for your 40 cal sounds about right to me.

Yeah, with these little stubby bullets, the 2/3 rule probably does not work.
Quickload defaults to the MAX cartridge length and when I saw only 0.169" of bullet being seated into the case, I just dropped the depth down another 1/10" to be more like I am used to seeing with my roundnose 125's and 147's.
I don't load such lightweight bullets in any of my 9mm or 38 super so I didn't think about how short those little 100gr flatnose bullets actually are.

Perhaps think a little more about the process before asking questions that highlight how little you have thought about the process next time.

                  3.2 HP38 @ .965 is what I use. Works in every .380 gun I have.
