    30-30 case mouth getting dented...why

    Hey guys,
Wasn't sure if I should ask here or in the rifle section but for sure you guys reload. I noticed my winchester 1894 was denting the case mouth as I ejected them. If I slowly used the lever then no dent. If I racked it like normal then a dent. I was thinking it was the elevator thing coming up and hitting it but even with another round coming up I noticed the same thing. I'll check the chamber with a bore scope but it would have to be something outside the chamber.

Edit: I check the previous cases that I haven't resized yet and they are perfect no dent. What could happen from one shooting session to the next that would cause that?

Edit: I think I solved the mystery. I'm a tard =). Last time I had the scope as far to the muzzle as possible so the turret wasn't in the way. It's so fast it doesn't even look like the cases are trying to eject but just the slightest tap on the plastic turret and there a dent. I'll have to shift it forward...end of story. I knew it was in the way but it flings so fast I couldn't even see it but at the range I wasn't focused like I am in my living room.

Binoculars can see far away with a wider field of view than rifle scopes.
30-30's don't HIT far away though so why bother having an optic?
        30-30's are perfect with irons.
If you want a little more aiming precision, get a rear peep sight.

Some people use scopes to hit 100 yard targets. For reloaders like me I kinda sorta want to figure the ideal load so will need a scope for that. The future is unwritten so who knows maybe a peep site like I have on my 44 mag 1894 would be in order after. Or maybe I'll continue to break tradition and shoot targets at 100 yards like the cool ar15 kids =). Just noticed you suggest a rear peep site. "great minds". When I only had the 44 mag I saw tons of discussions with guys who had scopes on their 30-30s. Seems like it's been a thing for decades or is it a new thing?

            Geofois,

Apparently no one told you yet that it's against 'Man-Law' in 7 western States to have a scope
on a Winchester 30-30 while in public. Now for Marlins and Henrys it's a different story.

Back to issue which OP is concerned about.

From a reloading standpoint. NO BIGGY, and not an issue. The expander button on your sizer will iron that little bitty ding out and you'll never know it was there.

If YOUR scope, on YOUR 94, is properly set to give YOU optimum eye relief. Then leave YOUR scope, on YOUR rifle, right where it is.

Folks have been scoping 94s as far back as the 1950s that I know of. They went to the trouble to drill/tap the receiver and use an offset mount on Pre Angle Ejectors.
