my garage is un heated/cooled but stays comfortable as far as powder I think 20 lbs max in a plywood box made with nails that will open up in a fire as to not explode is a building code thing

I built a simple cabinet out of 3/4" plywood with hinged doors that will allow the gas to escape if the powder store catches fire. Don't use an old refrigerator or a metal cabinet unless you want to create a bomb in the event of a fire. The limit is indeed 20 pounds.

This video was prepared for firefighters by SAAMI to show what happens when finished ammo catches fire. Although it does not show what happens when a store of powder catches fire, it is still worth watching.

20 lbs smokeless and 1 pound of black powder has been posted as max in one location. Check codes yourself. Like jack said plywood cabinet that will rupture and not explode. Not in steel cabinet or a safe.

I think there are no laws on powder storage except for Black Powder. But there are fire codes that vary based on location
