If it were factory ammunition, I think it would still shoot and cycle fine. The dent would pop back out from the chamber pressure.

If they are your departed friend's reloads, and you don't have the load information, it's hard to say how it would shoot/cycle. Especially if he shot them from a bolt action, there's no telling whether the bullet/powder combination is appropriate to cycle an AR-15.

I once worked up a 223 load for 62 grain projectiles and IMR 4198 powder. Was very accurate from a Savage Model 10, but would not cycle in my BCM 16" Midlength AR.Comment

 THIS

I have gotten cases dinged worse than that, shipped as loose bulk ammo, that DID cycle... but it was all part of the same batch, AND I knew where it came from. sigpic sigpicComment

Personally, I don't shoot reloads that I didn't load, since I have no idea what's in them, nor the care that was put into assembling them.

I might consider shooting commercially loaded ammo, but there, you have monetary recourse should something happen - something you don't have with ammo that was given to you.Comment

That'll iron out when you fire it. Doesn't look bad enough to not cycle.

There's folks reloads I would shoot and folks I would not.

I can't evaluate other folks sources.

That they're long and developed around a bolt action would suggest the reloader knew their stuff. But I would need other details before making a personal assessment.

If you're shooting non-dinged ones from the same source, I'd say fire away. You've already made the safety assessment.Palestine is a fake country

That's a nothing dent. If it chambers, and it should, just shoot it. As was stated, during firing the chamber pressure will iron the dent out. I've fired ammo with dents worse than that with no problems.Comment
