    How much ammo ???

When does the maddness of ammo hoarding end? How much is enough per weapon before we stop?

@ least 10,000 rounds per weapon. its gonna hold its value better than gold in a shtf environment IF that actually happens

...before I joined CG, I thought 500 rds per caliber you own was fine (I shoot infrequently), as long as it never went below that. Now, I feel 2000-5000 is better. I would like to get to Freonr22 levels but don't have the storage room.

I'm ok with 10,000 rounds per gun.
Of course, I have a LOT of guns.
It would take about 5 naked men to count them all on their appendages.

only as much as you can carry. The last thing you want to do is start a war when the whole world is desperate.

When your ammo collection is measured in 'tons' you might want to slow down...

I'd say buy as much as you think you'll need but don't expect it to hold it's value as an "investment" especially if you buy it at the top of the market like everyone who has bought ammo in the last year or 2. Only way is down from here.

According to the Post Master here my 4K of bullets weighed a Ton and had to be brought out to me on a dolly

Seriously if you are planning on shooting peeps from your place in a SHTF situation 5K+ is plenty in each caliber. Other then that take enough to ward off any zombies or animules that might try and eat you. Yes I said it, animules

You forgot .38 & .308 . I personally see no downside to hoarding purchasing excess ammo. If the price goes up as I expect it will, I'll be happy. If the bottom falls out from under the price, I'll average down and be happy. Either way, buying more ammo makes me happy.

Been looking into getting a Walther PPK as my first handgun. The choices are in .32 ACP and .380 ACP. You can't find 380 anywhere! Since this wouldn't be used for self-defense (that's what my Ithaca Model 37 and/or M1 Carbine are for), I've been leaning towards 32 ACP. *That* stuff is easy to find.

So add 380 ACP to the list.
