It should not be up that high. I think you just need to push it into the slot fully so it falls down into its recess. It should be tilted out away from the ram when installed properly.

Don’t lube or grease the primer arm.

The primer arm sits well below the shell holder on the Lee a Classic Cast Turret press (looks like what you have), angled away from the ram, and the primer cup only straightens out and peeks above the shell holder at the very bottom of the travel of the ram (lever all the way towards press).

I remember stoning the sides of my arm to remove burrs & smooth it out.

Forget it and hand prime your brass.

The priming arm usually won't fall back down without shell holder in place. There is no shell holder inserted in the picture above to prevent the arm from moving out of the slot. Try to install priming arm, then insert the shell holder, it should fall back in place.

Just to add to what has already been said. If you look in the ram you will see a thin rod which the primer arm fits into as the fulcrum when you need to prime the brass. I'm assuming it's the arm that came with the set so it should have the little slot for the rod to fit into.

Lee turret press. No shell holder in the photo. The priming arm fits easily in place and operates as it should with the shell holder in place
