Red Dot and 155 grain 40S&W

I have been reloading for about 20 years but stayed on the heavy side of 40SW and mostly reloading 180 grain and even some 200 grain. However, I bought some 155 grain cause that's what they had at the local shop. My light 180grain stuff has been taking 3.8 to 4.0 grains of Red Dot. I got info for about the same for a TMJ 155 grain from the net. It was older Red Dot info but no current load data. Can anyone give me a hand? thanks

I doubt you'd find any current published data using Red-Dot in 40 cal. I would use the older data and start with a reduced load between 150JHP(5.9gn) and 170XTP(5.1gn). Reduced from 5.5gn, a charge of 4.8gn to 5gn RD will be a light, and very safe load to start with. Though I haven't used any Red-Dot, I do prefer fast powders in 40 with light bullets. I've loaded plenty of powder puff rounds with Berry's 155rn for plinking using both Clays and Bullseye powder. Function has never been a problem and accuracy is very good.

Thanks a lot for the info. Some older data had 4.0 grains of Red dot for 155 FMJ. I just finished loading about 400 rds of 180 FMJ with 3.8grains of Red dot and it's a perfect target med light load.

I use it for 9, 40 and 45 of pretty much all bullet weights. I don't recall the charges without looking, but I found some books that had numbers that sounded good, loaded middle of the book, and didn't look back. I've still got 13 more pounds of it to go through.

Thanks. You don't remember what the load of red dot was for the 40 Spyder? If you find some info, let me know. I loaded some 155 with 3.8 and 4.0. the 4.0 seemed smooth and fired well. 3.8 seemed sluggish to me for whatever reason.

I only made 10 of each 155 gr RNFP Jacketed bulletheads. I used the same as 180 RNFP recipe of 3.8 and it was a little slow to me. The 4.0 seemed just about right. However, I did shoot it out of a G27. I will try with the longer barreled pistol. However, some old data had 5.1 maximum charge so I figured -10% so 4.5-4.6. That seems high but might try some at 4.2 just to see. Thanks

Well, went out to the desert 2 weeks ago and was hitting gong with G27 at 25 yards with those 155 grain loaded with red dot @ 4.0. Smooth and not too jumpy. Might load with 4.1 or even 4.2 for a little more speed and kick.

From the Lee reloading manual..... (note Lee says not to use any reloads in any Glock handgun that does fully support the cartridge in the chamber....)....
