    45 Automatic

Please call it by its correct nomenclature.

Rainy day, work a little slow, and confined to house for too long. This is just an observation by the way. I've noticed many people refer to 45 Automatic as 45 ACP - intending to refer to the loaded ammunition.

45 ACP is a designation for the gun and not the bullet it fires. If you have loaded ammunition from a reputable company that says "45 ACP" please post a picture. All of my ammunition states "45 Auto" or 45 "Automatic".

I do have a 45 ACP Colt 1911 too. Yes, I love my 45 automatic pistol and ammunition. Can you tell?

    Omark Industries, Inc. October 1979.
Speer Reloading Manual Number 10, For Rifle and Pistol.

    Page number 387.

Can't miss it. Top of Page left side oversized bold font reads, 45 ACP.

Google Images, I saw a red & white box that read 45 Auto on Top and 45acp on the bottom.
    Mystery solved.

What does the A stand for in ACP?

Automatic Colt Pistol. Or it used to be anyway.

Sorry that you're getting so bored..

But no, - I'm going to continue calling it ".45acp", just like I've been doing for the past 40 years.

Read the third paragraph down, from the book "Future Weapons" by Kevin Dockey

"The ammunition for the weapons would also be designed by Browning, and his agreement with Colt resulted in a number of cartridges being identified by the letters ACP, for Automatic Colt Pistol"

On the battlefield, a soldier's best friends are his gun and his gear—because his life depends on them. But what will it take to fight and survive on the battlefields of tomorrow? What will those combat arenas consist of, and where will they be? And what will our nation's fighting men and women carry with them into battle?  Future Weapons is a compendium of the weapons of war that may accompany our soldiers in the near and far future, as well as an insightful look at the soldier, sailor, and airman of today and tomorrow. All manner of military hardware is covered, as well as information about cutting-edge technology that will become standard in weapons to come, the possibility of robotic soldiers, vehicles, protective armor, and the prospects of fighting a war in both space and cyberspace.

So, you know, if John Moses Browning called it the .45 ACP, then I'm going to side with him, over OP.

                              Except you'd be wrong.

And it doesn't fire a 45 ACP bullet. It fires a 45 ACP cartridge. You'd think someone trying to be anal would at least complete the task.

"45 Auto(matic)" is shortened vs. acronym.
