    Indexing issues on XL650

Looking for help with 650 that is not indexing correctly. Primer punch is not lining up with shell plate as it rotates into position. I can manually get primer to rise if I wiggle shell plate back and forth. Problem only started a few days ago. At first I thought machine was dirty from powder spillage, which it was.

After cleaning, lubricating and reinstalling parts, machine worked ok again for about 1k rounds, then started having issue again. I did notice during clean up, shell plate lockdown bolt was loose, set screw on carrier not being cinched tight and allen bolt on lower portion of ram was not snug. All loose items snugged and machine ran fine again for about an hour.

Indexing issue started happening again, to the point I stopped using bullet feeder and started manually feeding each bullet into case. I went back and checked, all previously found loose bolts were still snug. Lower allen bolt being loose on carrier had me guessing carrier was out of alignment.

I started online chat with Dillon only to loose connection mid stride due to carrying laptop down to garage and dropping internet. Tech support had me check clearance between loaded round chute and case slider. I tried searching out problem online and indexing arm on primer feed or indexing ring on carrier might be issue. I've visually checked for wear but nothing looks damaged or out of normal. I have noticed when primer punch does not raise into shell plate, case slider will not fully insert brass into station one for resize or deprime.

do you have the Dillon alignment tool? Stock Number: 13713
This tool is needed if the platform needs to be removed, whether for cleaning & lubrication or for parts replacement.

Spoke with Dillon this morning, tech support said does not sound like alignment issue. Rep is shipping out replacement primer punch and station locator. Not much of a troubleshoot process, guy was quick to offer replacement parts. Rep said once parts in place, if problem still exists to call back...

As shown in the second picture set out above - the 650 has a triangular piece of metal located on the left hand side of the main pistol (between the piston and the bullet tray) that the shell plate indexer hits when you pull the lever. You can loosen that piece and move it back and forth a bit and that will set your indexing.

The index paw mates to the index maw. But, the elbows must be smooth.
When it's set perfectly, you'll get an index tyke.

Also check the condition of the paw to ensure there are no burrs or wear.
The index pawl sits on a spring in the indexing cam ring which is the part with the ramps that rotates the shellplate:

I wore an index pawl out and it had 4 burrs on it where it contacts the shellplates.
The burrs kept it from moving freely up and down.
Knocking the burrs off it got it moving smoothly again until I replaced it.
