    Need Feedback on Re-loading technology..

Hey all, my wife and I are based in Oakland. We hate these draconian new law's on ammunition, so we took up reloading. Wife's father is a chemist, long story short, we designed the "80 percent cartridge" The round comes loaded with propellant and a proprietary film that locks the propellant in place. All one needs to do is load the projectile/bullet, seats, crimp and move on to the next round. We originally designed this patent to help amateurs get into reloading, easier. Check out www.partialcartridge.com or 80percentcartridge.com to see a quick video. We are trying to work with ammunition manufacturers to slightly alter their manufacturing process to allow for the application of the patented film. Many people have asked us where to purchase, as they are not interested in giving information or having a background check to purchase in ammo in CA. Any and all feedback is welcome!!!!! would you use a product like this?

    www.partialcartridge.com & www.80percentcartridge.com

    Thank you,
    Josh

good luck sounds like a lot could go wrong seems like just normal reloading is all you need to do. powder and type play big role in what type bullets you use are you going to make like ?a dozen powder combinations per caliber?
way to much will go wrong get good insurance.

How much liability insurance do you have? Serious question?

As a reloader, I would prefer to control ALL of the steps in the process myself.

Sorry, but not a buyer for your product...

Create business to work around ammo laws. Market accordingly with buzzwords like 80 %. Draw attention, and soon reloading components will be illegal too.
              thanks

This seems as dumb as open carry

They will come for reloaders next

I'll be the first to give a non-inflammatory response with some insight.

From a practical standpoint, this honestly doesn't sound like a bad idea. It gives many casual shooters a convenient and simple way to get around the crappy ammunition laws that require little effort. Buy a press and a seat/crimp die, and you're good to go if you have a little extra time on your hands. This is likely your only selling point and your only feasible target demographic. Just remember though, once people start getting on the AFS, they'll only need to pay $1 to get the BG check to purchase their ammo. Unconstitutional and stupid in principle? Yes, but not enough that they might be willing to spend the time and money on your product.

                  -------------------------------
From a technical standpoint, this might only be feasible if you allowed your customer to customize their 80% cartridge each time. Every reloader wants different powders, different powder charges, different bullet weights, and of course different calibers. The average casual shooter that will go to a Big 5 and purchase a couple boxes of ammo the night before a range trip is most likely not a reloader.
Customization is a MASSIVE aspect of reloading, and this aspect will severely ruin any hopes of mass production by well established ammunition manufacturers. It won't make financial sense for manufacturers to add an extra step in their process just to sell to a portion of CA gun owners.

                  --------------------------------
From a liability standpoint, this could be disastrous for you. Taking my comments above into consideration and the fact that a large manufacturer will probably not green light your product, you would have to manufacture these on your own. I can think of a dozen things that a customer could do that would cause you some real legal trouble. Here's just one example:

Joe Schmoe is a casual shooter. He is a man of principle and hates the CA ammo laws and wants to get around it. He buys a single stage press, the necessary seat/crimp die, and your 80% product. He doesn't care for the details, he just wants to get around the regulations, and go shoot. He ends up setting his die incorrectly and seats the bullet too deep, but is too inexperienced or too ignorant to measure OAL or even notice that it looks strange. He takes his newly made ammo to the range and chambers it in his AR-15. Click. BOOOOM. He accidentally made his rifle into a grenade, and now you're likely at risk for liability if he was injured because you provided the product that caused it to happen.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your product.

P.S. - The above posters are absolutely correct in that if you are successful in marketing this product, CA lawmakers will come after reloading equipment and components next. Consider this when deciding whether or not to continue pursuing this product. You may very likely ruin the last bit of untouched 2A related freedom that Californians have.

Yeah. This is not a very good idea. I definitely would not buy this. Putting measured powder loads into a cartridge isn't really that hard, it's actual automated in most progressive presses.

I recall a post asking for feedback on this very concept a few months back. Pretty sure it was on Calguns. Everyone gave the same feedback then. Wondering if this is the same guy.

I don't see this selling. Its not practical. It's not safe.

I would not use a product like the one you've developed. Either I would reload, which I am currently doing for centerfire ammunition, or I would buy what I need legally, which is what I do for rimfire ammunition.

I live more than an hour from the nearest ammunition retailer so reloading is more about convenience and less about the background checks.

Might work for 22 rim fire ammo.

^^This^^^. Just like the open carry idiots doing stupid things for publicity and brought the open carry issue to the average citizen and what they brought was a negative effect. The legislature responded and open carry is gone.

The same thing will happen to the ammo reloader. The Legislature will respond, No more internet / out of State component purchases. Background checks and in State / store purchases for all components, brass primers, bullets and powder.

Should have named it the “Partridge”. Leave it to someone in the Bay Area to come up with a solution in search of a problem. OP - you should start up another bad reloading channel on YouTube - there’s a shortage of those.
