Walmart limiting ammo.

I got off work late last night and went to Wally World and they had a sign at the ammo counter, "No more than 6 boxes of ammo of any type per customer, per day".

The clerk told me the other day a lady walked in and bought $4K worth of ammo. Which I am sure she is turning it around and selling it for whatever. So this is designed to curb that and allow other people to get some ammo as well. That's what I saw at one Walmart, they didn't have anything other than birdshot ammo anyways. Pretty dry out there.

This sounds like a reasonable thing for Walmart to do. This should allow them to serve many customers, rather than help a few make a killing on the secondary market.

The hoarders will need to buy online.

Now I don't know if this is old news or not but Midway may soon place a limit on the number of primer that a person can order, I think the limit will be 5K.

i contacted midway about the 1,000,000 primer but, and they referred to elsewhere. heck i even got an email from larry potter/potterfield himself, and ssaid they didnt have enough power to keep em in stock, but cabelas will

The limit that LOTS of online vendors have is: NO more backorders!
Graf's & Powder Valley included, they don't even list on their website anymore!

Personally, I find it hard to believe that it took Walmart so long to act like this. They are THE retailer that has more instant retail-economy visibility through their IT department, arguably even more than the Feds!

Walmart in Milpitas had the same sign up - also Big-5 on Calaveras had a sign up saying something to the effect that they were out of all ammo - except shotgun shells, and that they get their shipments on Friday mornings, and to call at 11AM to ask what they received.
Big-5 on Tully in San Jose still had a few boxes - but did have some signs up - no 9mm, etc. They had some 30-06, but were pretty much out of everything else.

I've been doing some reloading lately and didn't realize things were like this until a buddy of mine told me he couldn't buy any 0.223 and asked me to loan him some - I thought - wow - is it this bad?

How can it have gotten worse since election time last year - any one have a good explanation?

.223 is VERY easy to find out here (NV) right now.
There was a period of time where it was near impossible to find .223 anywhere at all. It's starting to make it's way back in a hurry though. Just about everybody has it, from Cabela's to Big5. (Except sportsman's warehouse - but that's another issue all together).
Actually have been sort of able to find .45 lately as well (although .22 is nowhere to be found still). If I had to fashion a guess- i'd say some of the hoarding is starting to slow down, and a return to (semi) reality may be on the horizon.
Damn near every place i've been has some sort of purchase limit in place as well. Perhaps that's going to knock down some of the "give me every piece of ammo you have in stock - here's my amex" going on.
I don't think .22 is going to be easily available until prices come back down to reality a bit, or people just become apathetic and resign themselves to the fact that ammo now costs more then their house payment. Until then - it's the only thing people seem to be shooting - at least around here.

Ammo is not hard to find. What is hard, is paying the prices that it is going for. Glad I have been stocking up over the past 5 years.
