I am very new to reloading and curious as to what others think of this, I have a ton of the Tula 150G steel cased .308 and I was considering pulling it apart to load the bullets into my brass. Also wanted to measure the charges to see how far off they are and possibly use the powder again. Is it worth the time? Just shoot them as is ? I have been shooting these rounds out to 570yds and they have been decent for 6.00 a box ammo. My want to do this is to keep the steel cased stuff out of the rifle I really want to shoot to keep it in the best shape I can but I have been reading that I am worrying too much. I do realize I would need to know what powder is in them and figure out a safe load to use and wouldn't chance that unless I know for sure its a safe load. The google search didn't come up with this specifically that is why I thought to see what the experienced guys think.

New to reloading question

you will never know what powder is in them. It will be a powder that is not one that reloaders can get. It is not a canister powder..
You can pull the bullet and then dump the powder from each case into you primed brass case and seat the bullet if that is what you want. Or shoot it as is.
You will not know what charge the factory wanted so "checking" it is a waste of time.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Waste of time. Best you can do is chrono the load if you like it. Shoot em, then develp the next load.Comment

If you want accuracy - never shoot steel cases Ammo
Steel cased Ammo has hard jackets- bi metallic.
It wears the barrel fast.
So shoot or sell what you have
Pick up a case of good 308 and then reload the thousand empties from the caseRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Thanks guys I was thinking so but I figured asking was worth the time.Comment

I segregate non-reloadable ammo for times that I shoot in places where recovering my brass is difficult or unlikely. This ammo sounds like a perfect fit for that situation.
That's just me, but maybe you don't shoot in places like that..Comment

yeah where I am shooting currently it is very easy to hang onto my brass so not too much of an issue for me at this time.Comment

In that case using it to make some "mexican match" could be your thing. I do this with 7.62x54R, because boxer primed brass is expensive. Just try pulling a few and shoot them to make sure that the bullets will perform as some pulled bullets don't. It would suck if you wasted too much time and ammo only to gain poor results.
If cheaper bullets are your goal, I'd suggest looking for "blems" as their flaws are generally cosmetic.Comment

You are correct just went and checked. I didn’t think that they were. Does this make them inconsistent ? I do know some ranges don’t allow them, I understand why but I am able to use them where I shoot. I have been shooting 8” AR500 plates and I would have thought they would at least dent them but they don’t.Last edited by Bullets&Whitewalls; 12-29-2019, 3:51 PM.Comment

No that will not be the factor in making them not accurate. Yes a better match bullet will improve the group size. Just use them and start with better components for you own loads.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Not worth pulling bullets and reloading into brass .Just shoot them for fun and look for deals on 30 cal bullets. Try RMR or nosler seconds, GI brass. I just bought 350 147 fmj 30 cal for 10 cents each for my ar 10 .308 and 300 aac.Comment
