Are they brass cases? Or nickel?

What kind of ammo is it? Where did you get it from?
It sounds like there is something on these boxes that shouldn't be there, unless this is something that happens regularly.
I get the same thing sometimes when I i'm shooting a lot of the Remington .22s with the cheap "gold" coating. The coating just irritates my skin for some reason (as does a few other things, mostly metals).

If this doesn't normally happen to you when handling other types of ammo, I might be a little suspect. Obviously there is some sort of contaminate causing a reaction that is specific to this ammo - and that would certainly make me go "hmm" if I didn't know what that contaminate was.

Sounds like some type of corrosive possibly - I recommend getting some

I think that ammo is corrosive.
                  Better not shoot it.

Yeah, I thought about this too - and Randall is right.

0.223 became standard after the 'era' of corrosive ammo - so there may be something not quite on the up-and-up with that ammo.

                    If it was 7.62x54R that's one thing - but since it's 0.223 - then that's another story.

                        That's it.
The uranium is coming up on it's half life and it's converting to a soluable liquid which is seeping out of the cardboard boxes.
One symptom of liquid uranium on cardboard is that your skin turns red.
Another symptom of liquid uranium on cardboard is that your skin burns.
Beware of liquid uranium on cardboard.

The only known cure for this is to take a bath in a mixture of tomato juice and lime juice.
The limes need to be picked from the southward facing side of the tree under a full moon.

I have southward facing full moon limes available at $5 each.
I recommend you get 100 of them to mix up that bath.

You better buy 'em now- with Obama in office - you know they'll be banned by next year.
