Why are you storing corrosives around things you don't want to rust?

You misspelled something, therefore you're entire argument is flawed and wrong.

Maybe I need to measure something a bit corrosive.

Sorry, but "I've never had a problem" is a fallacious argument. I could fill my gas tank 1000 times with a cig in my hand and never have a problem. Still wouldn't make it a best practice.

You're welcome to store your calipers anyway you choose. Just imparting a bit of not-so-common knowledge. I really don't care what anyone does with it.

O picked up some miutoyos for$100 brand new. Can't get them to calibrate at 12 o clock though. They're at 1 o'clock which isn't too bad but it's annoying me. The instructions are prolly translated from Japanese. I got a Japanese manufacture not Brazilian. Really nice tool

There are 3-4 screws that hold the rack to the beam.
                  Loosen the screws.
Move the rack until the needle is at 12:00 with the jaws closed.
                  Tighten the rack screws.

If the needle is further off than moving the rack will correct, then you need to jump the pinion one tooth on the rack.
There is a little wrench that comes with the calipers that will allow you to disengage the pinion and move over one tooth at a time until you find the right notch.

Yeah i tried all that. Once i get it where i want it i test it and i can feel it cock over and it moves left or right. I'll figure it out its just annoying me right now.

Is the leaf spring captured between the two screws?
There should be flats for each of the two tension screws.
If the leaf moves, you get funkiness.
Both screws need to land on those flats.
