About an hour ago, I drove over to Fine Firearms in La Mesa, CA. As I was parking, I saw an “Open” sign flashing by a door next to Fine Firearms. I walked in this door (not Fine Firearms who are great guys BTW) . I was immediately greeted by a guy behind the counter who asked me if he could help. At the same time, I saw more ammo on the walls, shelves and on the floor, then I’ve seen in a long time.
The place was small, but ammo was everywhere! I mean EVERYWHERE! It looked like “old new stock” along with current boxes/ brands I recognized. I told the guy, I needed a moment. From what I could see the prices seem to be in line with the current times but many of the calibers weren’t marked, as far as I could see. Well at least from where I was standing.
While I was looking, rather drooling, at all the ammo, another customer came and ask if they (the store) had any “powder”. A 2nd sales guy said. “Sure what do you need?” The customer told him what he wanted and the sales guy disappeared in the back of the store and returned in about a minute carrying a couple of “jugs”.
Now I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know “jack” about reloading or components. The customer (very happy) then asked the sales guy if he had any primers? The sales said, “Sure what do you need?”. The customer told him and again the sale guy went to the back of the store and returned a short time later with a blue box of primers. The customer (very, very happy by this time) said he had been all the way to “Vegas” looking for primers and powder. Again, I don’t know %$&@#* about reloading components, but customer buying them was thrilled to say the least.
While this transaction was taking place, I saw a pile of impossible to find Remington 20ga buckshot (5rds to a box, # SP20-3BK). I asked, “How much” because I didn’t see a price on them. The sales guy picked a box, paused and said “How bout $3.99 a box”. I said, “I’ll take 4 boxes”. Also picked up a jumbo cocking handle for my Ruger 10-22 for $6.95!
Anyway I was impressed. The attitudes were friendly and the service was outstanding. I know many of you reloading guys have been looking for primers & powder. I don’t have a clue about the brand names or how much they had, but it might be worth your time to check them out. Their information is listed below. I didn’t get the name of the place. There wasn’t any sign posted out front. Good Luck !!!
