Recommendations for calipers???
I have some stuff to order from Midway. Would the Hornady calipers be ok for checking ammo??

what calibers? Are you measuring overall length or shoulders to see if you pushed back too far?Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

beware of cheap dial calipers, the gears teeth can jump. i used to machine, i used good vernier calipers, but now eyesight a concern. so i got some good mitutoyo digitals. keep in mind a cheap micrometer will give you a better measurement than a good caliper. 1 reason why, is because, you can obtain a better feel for drag/resistance w/ a micrometer than you can w/ a calipersLast edited by palmtree; 09-25-2019, 6:30 PM.Comment

I use the Harbor a Freight also. All thou I have gotten a bad one. Past two inches it didn't measure consistently. But I buy two at a time when I have the coupon.
They go on sale for $9.99

I prefer a dial, because the batteries never die.
But either of those will absolutley work for you.

The HF ones don't "feel" nice, but are comparable to any put out by Hornady, etc.
If you like nice tools, the Mitutoyo Absolutes are top notch. Even with regular use the battery lasts for several years.
An advantage of digital is you can zero wherever you want for comparative measurements.Palestine is a fake country

Either should work fine but personally, I like to use dial calipers for most of my reloading related tasks.
My dial calipers were about a $35 purchase years ago (Chinese made, KD tools) but they work well. If I were to do it again, I would go for either Mitutoyo or Starrett.
My digital set is from Starrett and has had great battery life. I have other sets as well but they rarely get used.NRA Life MemberComment
