So my Big 5 in the BayArea has been out of 22LR bricks for over a week, no problem I figure as I'm going south to Redlands to see my granddaughter and I will pick up some when I get there. Well this Big 5 was as empty as the one in NorCal... A couple of boxes but no bricks... Damn..... In a few weeks I will be heading into Nevada and try there...

I was in Big 5 in Petaluma yesterday. Guy behind the counter said they were expecting the truck this coming Tuesday. He thought they'd have 22 then, but for obvious reason can't guarantee. Another Big 5 in Marin on Thursday gave me "two weeks".

Rem, if your still down here check out the Big5 over in San Bernardino. The one on Highland avenue and sterling. Everytime I go there they have bricks of 22. American Eagle, Remington Golds, Federal Champions...
My Grandparents live down the street so I always check in to see what there is when I go up into the mountains.Comment

Thanks... I will check that out.... By the way, SoCal is not as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know what you locals think of Redlands but it's not bad..Rem, if your still down here check out the Big5 over in San Bernardino. The one on Highland avenue and sterling. Don't bother. I still live in NV - and we're just as dry here as anywhere else.So my Big 5 in the BayArea has been out of 22LR bricks for over a week, no problem I figure as I'm going south to Redlands to see my granddaughter and I will pick up some when I get there. Typically when I go on my ammo hunt - I drive from Douglas County up to Reno. Hit Scheel's, Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabela's, Reno Big5, Carson Big5 and Minden Big5. Also hit the Ace hardware in the south end of G-ville (right down the road from the range). Hit the wal-mart in carson from time to time as well, normally with about the same results. I don't even bother with wally's in Reno.
last time - nobody had anything but shotgun shells, .40s&w, and a couple boxes of insanely over-priced .45auto. I mean, $50 for a box of 50.
Every once in awhile if you hit it at just the right time, you might find a store that has a couple boxes of something - but it's rare. I make this trip on a fairly regular basis - and the results are normally the same. I don't even bother stopping at the 1-off retailers. They haven't had any stock in a long time - and if they do, chances are it gets set aside for regular customers.
.22 seems to come up a little more frequently, and Cabela's always has a pretty big selection of rifle ammo - even .223 and .308 at reasonable prices - but for any kind of handgun ammo - it gets picked through pretty much as soon as the shipments come in. If you're not there as they're stocking the shelves, you're not gettin any. Many of the stores are also implementing a 1-2 box max on purchases as well. Big5 in Minden had .45 the other day, and I went to pick up 4 boxes, and was told I could only have 2 because it's been so hard to come by. If you do find it - chances are it's the really expensive personal defense stuff. Cabela's had boxes of 9mm for like, $45 - and the whole rack was full the other day. I bet if you want back now it's empty though.
Long story short - it ain't just Cali having these problems. Don't expect to find primers, powder, etc either - cause it ain't happenin.Comment
