How does my 45 Colt loads look?

At least in terms of OAL, should I seat a bit deeper and crimp into the grooves? Or is this fine?

    Good. Good.
Lee Factory Crimp Die...Well worth the money.
YT, Fortunecookie always has good clips on 45 Long Colt reloadings...Even if the cartridge is obsolete.

Many experienced Reloaders are in different to use & benefits to Lyman's M Die.

Does it work in your revolver?

Do you have a levergun chambered for this? Because COAL is far mor critical on a levergun than a revolver.

If they work use them. No need to seat on the groove or crimp.

I agree they should be fine but I would also seat a bit deeper and use a bit more crimp, I like to see my crimp tucked up under that last lip.

Olden Days 1970s Speer Reloading Manuals list Cartridge Over All length, COL, for a specific bullet weight and if
you really look, reloading manuals of old will list COL for a specific bullet as well as specific bullet model number.

For revolvers i like a good crimp into the groove where applicable. Nothing like backing off the lands on a (bottlenecked) rifle.

Question: What grain bullet? What is your current OAL?
And for the heck of it, what powder and charge?

                      Tacoandbeef,

Take a look at above post #10 by pennstater.

A home assembled cartridge is commonly referred to as a, 'Load'.

And to get the greatest benefit from other reloader's experience it's always agood idea to
include the particulars that pennstater mentioned. I didn't mention this before
because I didn't want to dump too much info on you at one time.

I use the same LaserCast 200gr LRNFP in both my 45 Colt and 45 ACP, seated to the cannelure. Your 45 Colts look pretty good, but as others have said seat a bit deeper. For my 45 ACP I run them through a Lee Factory Crimp Die and have no issues in either my Springfield 1911 or Ruger Blackhawk Convertible.

                          Cheers,

As long as they are short enough to fit well in your cylinder, and the load is light enough and crimped enough to avoid the bullets jumping from recoil, they should be okay. I personally would seat them a little deeper and apply more crimp (into the groove). I also use the Lee FCD, and like it.

Ok, I'm confused. I dont load 45 colt so forgive a dumb question. Some of those rounds have an extractor groove and some dont. Is this normal for 45 colt? With the extractor groove wouldnt they head space on the case mouth? If so wouldnt you taper crimp instead of roll crimp?
                              Thanks
