40 S&W / 10mm die question

This is for those that load for both 40 S&W and 10mm. My question is jump back and forth with the same die set or do you prefer to run separate die sets for each cartridge?

What press? I run 550s. So to answer your question yes, seperate for 10 & 40.

I also run separate dies for 40 and 10mm. Lee’s dies are cheap enough and works fine for me. Less hassle to keep adjusting.

I only use different seater and taper crimp dies so I can keep the settings locked in. The sizing die does not change.

I use the same dies simply adjust as needed. I do runs of XX amount at a time to minimize adjustments.

I use the same set for both. I also separate my brass by length so no matter which caliber I'm loading, adjustments are always required. Keeps me in practice.

Well it looks like midway solved my problem for me, rcbs carbide die set on sale for 40.00 bucks. Oh and I run both a redding big boss 2 with hornady quick change incerts and a Redding turret press for specific cartridges.

650xl with Lee dies, use the same dies for each. I'll load several thousand 40 before switching over so resetting is no big deal.

I'll do a couple weeks of 40, then a couple weeks of 9, then a couple weeks of 38...then switch over to large primer and do 45 and 40 and 308. Swapping primer setup is the only thing that takes any time.

Been a while since I reloaded 10mm, but all you have to do is adjust the flaring, seating and taper crimp.

Powder charge not to be the least.

I use the same set, and just readjust the height of all the dies. If you have the money you can buy a second set.

I do the same for 38 Special and 357 Mag, 44 Special and 44 Mag, and 9x19 and 9x23.

Quick tips:

Having a set of dummy cartridges will speed up readjustment of seating dies.

Getting a second die for each length-critical step (flaring, seating, crimp) will eliminate the need to reset those dies (unless you decide to load different bullets.) Of course, at that point, it may be cheaper to buy a complete set.

Lastly, if you screw your dies in and lock them, you can fabricate spacers to take up the difference in length between the two cases. Assuming you use similar-profile bullets, the spacer will take of readjustment for you.
