    Help with 9mm

I've been reloading 9mm for years, and have what I call a happy load; 124 grain FMJ ball round with 4.3~4.4 grains of W231/HP38. About the most the books recommend.

Here's the challenge; I've got a belt-fed upper (thanks, St. Benitez!!) on a RAW that thinks that 4.4. grains is a bunny fart load. Now, factory ammo works fine. Loads of 4.9~5.0 work well, too. Looking at the load books, you can go that high with a 90 grain bullet (or in a .38 special).

What is the consensus here at the Calguns Reloading Brain Trust?

    I've run 4.8grs W231 with 124gr bullets for decades.......
    Luck favors the prepared.

The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.

So I might be confused by your post

Does your upper work with factory 9mm?

Are you looking for a factory type load or a +p or +p+ load?

Does the upper use blowback or gas?
If blow back would a fast burning be better to give a sharper recoil impulse?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Move to Power Pistol. Much more forgiving to hot loads. Lots of cool flash as well.

I'm not telling you to load my load but to work up to it if "safe" for your firearm. I have for more than years than I can remember used 5.1 grains of W231 behind a 124 gr Hornady truncated bullet. In all of my guns it works and without any damage what so ever, they are a load that seems to be a bit lighter in felt recoil that the factory Winchester 124 gr. 9mm Nato that I have been using of late. The Win factory ammo works very well in all of my guns including my Ruger PC carbine. The Win ammo is 1,200 fps according to whats on the box and that velocity puts it in the +P category. HTH

Thanks, guys! Yes, the gun works on factory loads (usually 115 grain) as well as 4.9 gn. of 231 for a 125 grain bullet. I just wasn't sure since most load books only go to 4.4 gn.

A video of that belt fed in action would be a sight to see.

I used different loads before I got my MPX and it had issues. My new load is 124gn hp xtreme with 6.6 gn HS6 which works great. Some guns with the heavier actions just need more umph.
