    Dies for the 41 special

I want to start loading for the 41 special.

I can use my 41 mag sizing die. But not my expander die. or my seating and crimping die.

Any idea on were I can get dies for the 41 special.

I know that I can take dies to a machinist and have some metal taken off of the bottoms of the dies. Not sure on cost, or if I want to go that route.

As there was never a .41 special marketed, where did you get the brass?

I'm not a .41 Special shooter, but I am wondering why your 41M dies won't work? I load 38S and 357M on the same set of dies without having to grind the die or shell holder. It's a bit of a pain to reset the dies between caliber changes, but it can be done. The same works for my 44S & 44M setup. How is 41S unique?

In 1964 I bought a set of RCBS 357 magnum dies. I ended up cutting about .1" off of the bottom of the seating die so I could crimp 38 specials. The expander die had enough adjustment without modification. It only took a few minutes in a lathe using a carbide bit to shorten the die.

The 41 mag dies are too long to work that way.

The sizing die will work. The seating/crimp die will work to seat only. I will not be able to crimp.

So, I can get a crimp die. or remove some from the bottom of the seating/crimp die. The die used to flare the case mouth will need to be shorten to work.

I would just as soon buy a new set.

I have used my 357/38sp dies to reload 357 and 38spl. I have switched over to separate dies for each. I like it much better.

              I have thought about this.
I don't know anybody with a lathe. Sooo, I would have to take it to a machine shop. That could be a lot of money.

I am planning on getting a new set of dies for the 41spl any way.

I will have to look into things a little more before I decide on what to do.

Have you looked into using a 41 Action Express? Or is seems you should be able to use a 10mm die for seating.

I reload for a 41 Magnum. If I wanted a nice, slow target type load, I'd use Trail Boss. I wouldn't even consider loading a 41 special, seems like a waste of time, but it is your time to waste.

Sizing dies for straight wall pistol cases. Require a "hard bump" on the SH.

Seating/Crimping, and expander dies do not. No lathe required. Hack saw, file, and emery paper. Are the only tools required. A "square" would be nice to make the job look clean.

Thanks for the link. I used to hang out there years ago.

The way that I like to do things is... normal loads in regular cases and light loads in special cases.

Right now, I am saving up to buy a GP100 and have it made into a 5 shot 41 special.
