Proper tool for squib removal ??

My daughter brought over her P238 yesterday and asked if I would check out the barrel. She has a bullet that didn't fire properly and lodged in the barrel.
Any suggestions as to what to use to remove it. I thought maybe a wood dowel.

Wood, a pencil using the eraser, something brass so it doesn't marr. If all else fails fill it with a liquid and pressurize it with a grease gun and it will pop out.

After beating wood dowel into tooth picks, beating old brass cleaning rod into curly Q.
I took barrel over to near by machine shop they had brass rod slightly smaller than bore, put it on a hand press and pressed it right out. They were also shooters and wouldn't take any money.

Brass rod. Tap the brass gently with a small hammer.

You could also use a 1/4 threaded steel bolt/rod covered in plastic sleeve. But, I suggest buying the brass rod.

Doesn't hurt to spray some penetrating oil in there and let is soak for a while.

+1 on the brass rod. Mine is just 5/16" bar stock which is .312" diameter. Fits nicely in a .354" bore.

Yep, wood splinters, aluminum isn't strong enough, brass is the right tool for this job. Just smaller than the bore, tap out with hammer or (easier) put end of brass rod on a wooden benchtop and slide the gun down using the grip as a handle.

obviously clear the weapon 1st. secure the barrel and tip the barrel muzzle up. CLP down the muzzle of the barrel. let it sit a day. if you can take the barrel out of the gun and put it in a vise muzzle down. take a brass cleaning rod and a dead blow. I have an old 3 piece rifle cleaning rod that broke. i use 1 section of it and then start beating. make sure you push the slug out the muzzle end of the barrel if its more than the length of the slug down the barrel.

i may have done this a few times

when you are done clean the gun and get back to shooting (and reloading!)

Probably because they read it here on Calguns....It seems every time someone asks about squibs at least two people suggest wood dowels or (surprise!) even pencils.

A fella I used to shoot with had these. They worked well and the extra weight at the end worked to keep the inertia up while having a lower rod speed.

I keep two sizes in my range bag, 38 and 45.

Reloading means you will have squibs - it's all just a matter of time.
