Is it safe to resize live ammo?

I have a bunch of 308 that I made for my remy 700. I don't shoot it much any more, so I want to use the ammo on another rifle. Is it safe to resize it?

Do you have a die capable of sizing with the bullet in place or are you saying you will pull the bullet and size the primed brass?

It probably is as long as the die is large enough to not pinch the bullet with the expanding rod and decapper pin screwed out of the die.

Why would you need to resize the loaded ammo for another rifle?

if the other rifle is also chambered in .308 the current case sizing itself should be ok. i'm assuming your just wanting to change the overall length. if that's the case, then should not be a problem to shorten the overall length.

Cannot resize loaded ammo in a sizing die. It makes the bullet undersized and loose in the neck.

9 out of 10 people who ask that question prefer a heavy hammer to resize before reconstruction of the face and body can begin.

Just to simplify the thought process.

The answer is no.
Not without taking them apart.

Unless you plan to shoot them in a much tighter chamber, just shoot them in any 308 and then reload accordingly.

.308 loaded for a 700 should work in any .308 made without resizing. My Lee factory crimp die actually crimps and checks the final size of the loaded round....now if your talking about bullet seating because you find them to long for your action you will get shavings or jacket damage...

As GBA noted. Pulling the decapper and resizing loaded cases. Makes the neck area undersized with bullet also effected. They will likely chamber and fire fine. But the "now undersized" bullets will travel down the bore like a hotdog thrown down an alley.
