Getting back in guns, yay. Need ammo

Hey, looking for information on trying to get bulk ammo before July. Can anyone in the Bay Area steer me in a direction of someone? Thank you
its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

Or maybe it's evil twin DOJ.

On second thought and just in case I inadvertently misinformed this member, here's the PM I sent him. Hopefully it'll help the many others who will be asking the same question:

It's not that hard and things won't change much on July 1 either.

Step 1. Find a local gun store that will agree to receive ammo from the list in the thread I sent you.

Step 2. Pay them a visit or give them a call and ask them how their process works. Expect to pay sales tax plus a fee for their trouble.. Also expect that they may only receive shipments from certain vendors and they may want you to pick up the order within a certain time frame once they receive it.

Step 3. Place an order for what you want from the online vendor you've chosen.

Starting July 1 you'll have to have an instant background check in order to purchase ammunition and that will cost you a buck per transaction (not a buck per box) . If you've purchased a firearm through the DROS process in the last 15 years or so, your name should be in the system. If not, you'll have to go through another process to get your name in the system, the check may take up to ten days, and I think it will cost you $19 one time.

The process is a bit of a pain if you live in an urbanized area and near some of the stores on that list. My nearest gun store is the Cabelas just outside Reno and I can't legally buy there. The next closest store I'm aware of is in Rocklin, an hour and a half away, and they often don't have what I want. There are one or two dealers left closer to where I live for firearm purchases but I have no idea whether they also do ammo.

If you live near a Sportsman's Warehouse, you can save yourself some time and trouble by stocking up on Aguila Super Extra standard or high velocity ammo for 4 cents a round, assuming your gun likes the stuff. If they don't have it in stock, order it on their web site, I believe it'll be shipped free, and then pick it up.

The FFL and COE stuff isn't worth the cost and hassle unless you can score far better deals online and you shoot maybe a thousand rounds a month or you're in my position (no nearby gun store) and shoot a lot. I'm stocked up on .22lr for about another 5 years and I reload everything else except .17 HMR, which I buy when I'm traveling to or from the Bay Area.

              Be safe.
