Testing a concept with the hf tumbler

If anyone has a container idea that is ready to use but more durable than this water bottle that would be cool. I'll check the cleansing plastic bottles at wally mart sometime but just wanted to test the idea and see how much brass it will tumble. Hopefully 250 223 cases. I already put 150 cases in the hf tumbler, 75 in each drum and those weigh over 8lbs loaded and drums. I'm sure the leverage is different with smaller diameter drums vs my wider bottle. I'll probably need some grippy tape around it but so far it does spin it but with lop sided weight I'm sure it will slip.

I have used peanut butter jars and coffee jars . You can use almost
any that have screw on lids .

Put 148 223 cases which is what I normally put in the hf tumbler, put the 2 lbs of pins, and 2 pounds of water. I just added 78 cases of 308 since this is the dirty brass I had on hand. It wouldn't spin the jug. Not because it was slipping, it just couldn't turn it at all and the spindle was still with the motor turning. Even when I tried to get it going with my hand it wouldn't do it. The wider container is just too wide. Oh well.

I'll keep an eye out for smaller containers but if it doesn't increase capacity much then I won't worry about it.

4in abs tube x 2 feet long = $10 Cut to length
4 in test cap insert = $.50 glue in permanently
4 in removable test cap = gripper test plug = $7 Screw it to make it water tight
surgical tubing to put around the powered roller
Or put rubber bands around 4 in pipe.

Maybe glue a piece of plastic on the inside to act as an agitator.

Not sure how much weight the HF can handle.

I wonder what the capacity is. If 250 223 cases that would be cool. After going back to my regular drums it also wouldn't work. I didn't realize I must have caused the motor to slide over so after tightening the band again then it worked fine. I'll have to try the plastic thing again and see another time

I'd suggest building your own drum and roller setup. My drum is 6" drain pipe, 24" long, 6-4" reducer on one end with cleanout cap. Stand is 1" square tube, four pillow block bearings, some 3/4" steering shaft, a 1/3 hp 110v ac fan motor and a couple pulleys. I can tumble about 1400 .223 cases and I had about $180 into the entire setup. I have been using it for about seven years now, no issues.

You can get a harbor freight cement mixer on sale for $150 and put a $3.25 Lowe's 5 gallon bucket inside of it.
That way if you get tired of stainless tumbling with water and the associated cons you can always go back to walnut or use it to make a nice patio.

I don't know if it is still going on , but pep boys was giving away
5 gallon buckets every time you bought something .
While wife was buying plants @ home depot , I walked across to pep
boys . Oil , filter , windshield wiper blades battery connections - I got
about 8 of them .
FYI = home depot sell bungee cord by the roll - 1/4 inch - wrap and
tie around container to cut down on noise .
