150gr Rem Core-Lok. Everything else the same.

      25 gr of IMR 3031.

That's my favorite and most accurate load in my 1954 Marlin 336RC. It has a microgroove barrel. I gas check and size a 150 gr bullet to .311".

I have never chronoed it but with Skinner peep sights I can reliably hit a clay pigeon out to 80-90 yards consistently.

The accuracy is still there at longer distances but my old eyes are failing.

I have moved to optics on some of my rifles but my lever guns still have irons.

      Best of luck.

Thanks. I just picked up a Lyman 311466 152 grain mold and will get some gas checks.

Your using the load data marked in green...?

Also picked up a Lyman 311291 mold with gas checks that should drop a 170 grain bullet. Will try powder coating these too. The load data is highlighted in yellow...

30 grains of H4895 and a 110 grain jacketed .30 caliber carbine bullet knocks down turkeys, pigs and chickens with fine accuracy and light recoil.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but is there any accurate .30-30 factory ammo available? I shot Remington less recoil .30-30 and was all over the paper at 50 yds and I'm not a bad shot. Then I read that .30-30's are ammunition picky - you have to find the right load for your barrel.

I have a Winchester 1971 NRA commemorative rifle (not carbine) and would like to shoot it.

                  To McGuiver,

Yes, that is the load data that I am using. I also use the same charge with a 173 gr version of the famous 311041.

I wish you luck with the Lyman molds. I have never had a Lyman 30 cal mold that would cast large enough for me to size to .311".

I don't hunt any more. I just blast away at steel swingers or clay pigeons at various distances. So I started loading down ammo from max to make my range sessions more enjoyable.

But judging by the way this load swings a steel plate at 75 yards I would not hesitate to use it on deer, coyote, maybe even a hog.

This summer I want to dig out my chronograph. I have several loads that I am curious about.

                  To Bumslie,

I also like mouse fart loads in the 30-30. I have the 311041 in a plainbase version. I load it over 7 gr of Bullseye. Lot's of fun.

My personal favorite, 5.6 grains Red Dot under an uncoated MBC 165 RNFP.

Shoots at 1050 fps, is quiet, has the energy of a .38 special. I might take it out for rabbits this year (out of state).

The Remington ammo in the green/yellow box shot well in my circa 1951 '94.

I have a Marlin 30AS and the most accurate factory ammo in my rifle is the standard Federal 150 grain soft point. 1" or under at 100 yds.

In factory ammo, my '70's Winchester 94 shot the Hornady 160 grain LeverEvolution ammo the best. It was very accurate and powerful.
