    223/H335/40gr V-Max Load

    Looking to have some 40gr V-Max loaded for my Rem 700 26" HB 223 for Ground Squirrels. Have H335 on hand, LC 16 brass, and Win or Fed Small Rifle or CCI Small Rifle Magnum primers. Where should we start and work up grain-wise - 25? Any other tips?

      Need advice on powder/load for a 40 gr. bullet in .223 Remington. Don't have access to range to work up load-need general load that is safe and will usually give adequate velocity and accuracy.


      Using pulled 40gr blue tip vmax, at near NATO velocities, I got an exit wound in a rooster (that attacked my friend's daughter's face), about the size of a softball... Or about would fit most of a softball from a 20" AR.

          Hodgdon lists 26 grains at min coal 2.280" as a starting load. Since you are using military brass keep in mind your lower case capacity. If it were me Id start at 26 grains at about 2.300" and work up from there.

          Ive used several jugs of H335 in a few 223AI and find it likes to be on the hotter side but start low and see what your setup prefers.
