Based from the current crazy prices of all components to reload a 9mm, what is the realistic simulated cost?

    124gr + brass + primer + powder (Between 3.5-3.9 load)?

    Thanks for the input.

      I reload 9mm for 10 CPR-

      Primer- .03
      Bullet- .06
      Powder- .01
      Brass- Free (range pickup)

The idea is to be stocked up well before any ammo shortage.

Why lapua brass unless shooting match. Federal match brass much cheaper.

I was just at a gun show in WA, and saw plain-jane target .38spl with a price tag of $100/box of 50. Didn't see anyone buying it, but still.....

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

When you punch all of the numbers for the consumable items, reloaded ammunition does work out to cost less than factory ammo. When you compare to comparable factory ammo, the savings can be significant.

But, and trust me on this, no one in the history of the world ever saved money by getting into reloading.

You're going to find yourself shooting a whole lot more than you did before - poof, there went your savings.

Add to that the initial costs of your reloading equipment. You never truly recover that expense because you're always buying more equipment.

You get into reloading because it's very calming and rewarding. Getting better ammo than factory is just a side benefit. For the cost of an hour with Dr. Stratton, I can get a couple of dies, a press, and the consumables to load a hundred rounds.

Your ongoing cost will be only a fraction for the brass since it's reusable. Figure 10-15 reloads on average. You can also buy pick up range brass generally 10 cents each.
7000 grains of powder in a pound so divide that by your load. You can also pick your powder by using the one that requires the least for the FPS you want. Unless your going for max accuracy buy the cheaper hunting bullets.

When Sierra Bullet was in Whittier we'd buy seconds by the pound. They were about 1/4 the price of firsts.

The other thing about reloading is you can shoot rounds that would otherwise be cost prohibited. 338, 416, ...

At inflated prices I paid between August and January this year for 35,000 primers:
                    9mm
                    Brass : free
Bullet : FMJ 124 gn was .08 now 11.9 cents a round with shipping
Coated lead .087 cents a round local source
Powder: Win 231 .018 cents a round / less for Titegroup
                    Primers: .03( Winchester/Remington/CCI/Sellier Bellot)-.047 ( Federal match)

                    Cost 12.8 -.18.4 cents a round.

The Copper shortage has driven the cost of bullets up but coated lead are about the same as JHP. Precision Delta JHP’s 124 grain are 11.6 cents a round.

The local range is selling 9mm for 80 cents a round. I’ve seen it online for as little as 32 cents a round and as high as a dollar a round before shipping .

Reloading 223 is costing about .24 cents a round for Hornady 62 grain.

                        STILL reloading 55gr 5.56/.223 for $0.173344615/rd, and 62gr SS109/M855 reloads for about $0.1803/rd.

I don't count my time in reloading, as I am not [really] looking for ammo, ever.

Lowest I got .223/5.56 was 40gr pulled Hornady ballistic tips @~$0.15/rd, but those sales and clearances are LONG-GONE...
I got 2500 of these 40gr pulled projectiles for .067516/ea.
                        I thought I only got 1500, but I got 2500...

                          Sierra Match King bullets $38

                          Lapua brass $77

$1.68/round doesn't seem that much cheaper than buying decent .308 from the store. Now I understand you can reuse your brass, but only a couple times correct?

I wasn't expecting huge savings, but I'm having second thoughts about the time it takes with the cost being only slightly better.

                          Did I miss something?
                          Costs for 1000 rounds:
                          Sierra Match King bullets $375
Lapua brass $77 (100 pieces should go 10 firings)
                          CCI primers $37
                          IMR powder $160

Total cost $649 or 65 cents per round.
Your calculation is about $1 high per round.
                          You definitely missed something.

On second reloading, subtract the Lapua brass $77
 cost.
                            Now, you're saving...
