Was in the desert yesterday with golfish shooting our lever rifles and we both had tried a "new to us " load. 158gr RNFP and BE-86 powder. I ran mine at 7.3gr with X-treme plated 158's, Mark, I believe was at 8.0gr BE-86 with Missouri 158 RNFP coated. Well, I do believe we were both mighty impressed with respective loads. Accurate, clean and put the womp factor on the steel gongs! I for sure will be loading of this powder. A third less than 2400 and every bit as accurate. Pretty surprised. And stoked! Next time I load this, I'm bring my chrony. Impressed.

Actually it was claimed to be Power Pistol with flash suppressant but the burn rate is in between Unique and PP.
Great powder, I've used about 10 pounds of it so far and it works very well in 9/38/.357/40/45. The fine flakes meter better than Unique and it burns cleaner too due to the higher nitroglycerin content.Comment

Alliant does advertise it as Power Pistol with a flash suppressant, but I like to think of it as Improved Unique.Actually it was claimed to be Power Pistol with flash suppressant but the burn rate is in between Unique and PP.

I'm still on my first 8 pound jug and it is fully as versatile as Unique while metering better and burning cleaner. It is a great powder for a beginning reloader...very forgiving...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

Hey Tom, I'm going to load up some 45 colt with this powder today. Think I'll use cast bullets.
8.3 grains = 861 fps with the cast RNFP 250 grain bullet.
Do you think we'll get a couple hundred fps more through the 20" rifle barrels?

Golf,
Use care developing hotter loads with BE-86 in low pressure cartridges ( i.e., 45 ACP and 45 Colt). It is a great magnum powder.Comment

Yeah buddy, Its a good powder.
I've used this powder for a while, your right, that Alliant data is pretty much max load data.
Maybe the hot loads will loosen up the action on my new Winchester 92

Was more worried about your dental work than the 92 action. LOL
Glad you are feeling better.Comment

If you get around to it ,,CFE Pistol works very well in 38+p and 357mag low end loads.. Fine grain and Meters like water too... I like it better in my pistols than BE-86,,, might make a good combo gun ammo... I have not tried it in rifles though...
Cheers...Comment
