Single stage vs progressive?
Tags: None -
I have both, a Rock Chucker and a Dillon 550.
I load almost all rifle on the Rick Chucker. Definitely my choice for precision rifle loads.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. You really need to figure out what kind of volume you want to load.
A couple hundred at a time single stage easy few hundred dillon 550 more than that you need a 650, 1050 or largerNRA Endowment Life Member

Depends on what you are doing. For match rounds, I use a SS. For plinking or bulk reloading, I use a progressive. IMHO, anyone who owns a progressive should also have a single state press on their bench. That’s what I was thinking I’ll do if a single stage is better. Money’s tight right now, so I think I’ll start with a single stage.
AE 5.56 is cheap so it’s hard to justify the stuff to reload that right now. But over $2 a shot for decent .308 leaves me really unable to shoot it much. Plus with the new laws that may go into effect soon I might as well start dipping my toes.
I really wouldn’t be doing more than 500 at a time for sure. Not good .308 anyway.
Thanks.Comment

Reading reviews on the rock chucker on amazon and it sounds like they went down hill and cheaper out recently. People talk about the old ones being great but not so much anymoreComment

I have a 20 or 30 year old Rockchucker that was given to me and it's all I use. Maybe the newer ones are more cheaply made but presses are really simple machines so IMHO it's tough to go wrong. You might take a look on the Private Reloading Sales forum - SS presses are advertised there periodically and they're likely to be older ones rather than newer ones.Comment

I use a single stage. I have some learning disabilities....so, I don't trust my self with a progressive.
I check every thing twice. Been reloading for over 40 years....no problems.
I have tons of brass. I am talking thousands of rounds per caliber. So, I have brass that has been fired. Brass that is sized and primed. And loaded ammo.
Never have to worry about running out. Plus, I find that reloading is very relaxing.
Take care

Can't imagine anything wrong/bad with a newer RCBS Rockchukar SS press.
Friend on here just bought one and it seems to works as good as mine]1978!]
You'll be fine. More questions, ask.Comment
