Brass Annealing

I do allot of BR shooting and some Long Range work.

I have never been a fan of annealing due to the inconsistencies acheived with flame systems.

There seem to be a new surge in equipment and systems not using flame. So, my interest has raised its ugly head.

One friend has an induction system that cost over 1K, not in the cards for me.

I have been looking at the following systems:

Salt Bath Annealing

Anyone use either of these? Would love to hear your take on them.

I have the new amp, like it so far but have only used the standard version. I was able to anneal 200 .223 rounds in no time, consistency was great. I did pay about $1100 for the machine, bought from Brownells with 10% coupon. If you looking for quick set up with consistent results and price is not an object it’s the way to go.

Have a Giraud for a couple of years now and has worked fine for me.

I use an Annealeez. Works well once you get used to it. You could buy 4 or 5 of them for the price of an AMP.

I have an AMP MarkII. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Same as above poster I purchased mine from Brownells with a 10% off coupon.

If you go the AMP route, Brownells usually has coupon codes.

I originally wanted to do Salt Bath Annealing, however, having very hot liquid (or open flame with other annealing machines) was a turn-off for me.

It's nice to have induction annealing, no open flames or having to check it's temperature. Salt Bath is nice and is cheaper but the risk of spilling, splashing hot liquids turned me away.

I think the AMP is totally worth it.

I have not fooled with annealing much. Tried one of rotary units once, was not impressed.

With new systems avail, investigating it again.

Not willing to drop the coin for a AMP until I am convinced it is worth doing.

Hence the salt system is of interest.

In my humble opinion, if absolute consistency is what you're after, an induction annealer is the way to go. If you are shooting benchrest competitively, I would think it would be worth your investment.

A flame annealer gets the job done and is very cheap, but as you have noted, they are not the most consistent. Still, for a lot of people it gets the job done and is certainly better than not annealing at all.

If my only choice was between an induction annealer and salt bath annealing, I personally would gladly pay for an induction machine. Not sure there is any number of cost savings that could ever make me salt bath anneal.

2 years ago I switched to the Salt Bath Annealing of my 50 BMG cases (have also done smaller cases) that I shoot in Competition. It has had a positive effect, as my scores/groups have proven to me.

If I had the funds, I would most likely go to the AMP Induction Annealer, but for now, I'm staying with the Salt Bath.
