231 or Bullseye: which burns dirter?

I have some Hercules pistol power that are even older than my 231. Yesterday I reloaded about 50 rounds of 9mm with 115 FMJ bullet. I used some Bullseye. It seem to leave more residue than the 231.

I also recall when I used the Blue Dot and the Unique that they too burned dirtier than the 231. I'm I correct? The last time I used the Hercules products was about 20 years ago. I've pretty much stuck with 231 for pistol and 748 for rifle.

look at Hodgdons Clays. It is a shotgun powder that burns real clean and has some pistol applications, it just doesn't give a lot of velocity
All the Hercules product I have say pistol and shotgun powder too. I am not loading the 115g bullets with much powder. I wanted to see how they cycled thru Beretta 92. Loaded 4.2 g. My old Sierra manual shows 3.9g to 4.9 g.

I use 231 for my non magnum pistol rounds and it works good enough for me. Never loaded with Bullseye.

i recently loaded 500+ with bullseye for my old pt99. loaded with 4.0gr / 115gr bullet. i had some failure to eject, but it could also be because i switched to wolf small pistol primers. same load with 180gr bullets through my 40s&w has no problems. i have not used any other powder as of yet, i still need to finish through 8lbs worth, but it does gunk up my pistol.

In mid-range to standard velocity 45ACP loads, Bullseye leaves more soot on the gun than 231. Since there's no accuracy difference that I can see, I use 231 so I don't have to clean as much.

On target-level (2.7gr BE vs.3.0gr 231) 38 Spl WC loads, Bullseye leaves more soot on the cylinder and frame. Bullseye is also more accurate that 231, so that's what I use, and just put up with the extra bit of cleaning.

I switched over from using Win 231 and the old Win 452AA to Hodgdon Titegroup for most of my non magnum handgun loads. Titegroup does seem to be a little cleaner than the Winchester powders, I did use Bullseye for a while many years ago and I think it was similar to what 231 is like as far as the "dirtyness" is concerned. I can say that I have been impressed with Titegroup so far in .45acp and GAP and I recently started doing 9mm using it as well.

                  TG also burns much hotter.

I like 231 and Bullseye both. I don't care about how dirty they get.
